NEWS FLASH!!! HOBO Codes Exhibit retiring! NEWS FLASH!!!

The ever popular Hobo Codes exhibit layout, located just inside the entrance of the National Cryptologic Museum, is being forced into retirement. The National Cryptologic Museum is closing for renovations and the current structure housing the Museum at Fort Meade, MD will be demolished.
The Hobo Codes layout was designed as an interactive exhibit to engage the general public, especially children, in an educational experience. The educational focus was the history and use of hobo codes, notably along and around America's railroads. The layout – set small town America circa 1920-1930 – allowed visitors, via a push-button panel, to highlight various hobo codes located throughout the exhibit.
Originally planned as a temporary exhibit, the layout consistently ranked as one of the Museum's most popular attractions. Designed and built by MARRS volunteers in 2007, the original plans specified an operational life of 5 years. It proved to be far more durable however, as it remained in operation until National Cryptologic Museum closed for renovations in early 2021. MARRS members maintained the Hobo Codes layout throughout its tenure as a public exhibit.
MARRS is proud of its connection to the National Cryptologic Museum, and is working with the Museum to find another home for the Hobo Codes layout. Stay tuned for details!
