Originally located at the National Cryptologic Museum (NCM), the Hobo Codes layout was designed as an interactive exhibit to engage the general public, especially children, in an educational experience. The educational focus was the history and use of hobo codes, notably along and around America's railroads. The layout – set small town America circa 1920-1930 – allows visitors, via a push-button panel, to highlight various hobo codes located throughout the exhibit.
Extensive renovations at the NCM - including the construction of new facilities - necessitated the relocation of the exhibit to Gaithersburg. MARRS is pleased to partner with the Gaithersburg Community Museum to keep the Hobo Codes layout available to the public.
